| Camino de Santiago - 2010 Aņo Santo. |
|
It's here again, the Saint's Year. Walking the Camino de Santiago becomes ever more popular, and this year when St. James day, the 25th of July, falls on a Sunday, it seems more folk than ever want to hike their way towards the supposed resting place of this disciple. Whatever your reasons for wanting to follow the age old pilgrims' trail, most people agree that the experience is a positive one; whether for the fellow walkers you meet, the local folk along the way, or the chance to let your endorphins run wild whilst your legs do the work. This footage is the culmination of a recent walk along the Via or Ruta dela Plata. Very much the quiet Camino, this Way gives a cross section of spanish geography and people that no other Camino can. Quite simply by traversing Spain from south to north, you go from flamenco to queimada, passing from one cultural extreme to the other. It's a route that let's you savour the spanish countryside and its inhabitants without the distraction of the fellower traveller. When you do hit Galicia after the hardships of Extremadura and Andalucia, the last 100kms bring back a harmony to the surrounding landscape. Oak and chestnut woods, fertile arable fields, orchards and vines seem to make this part of Spain a land of plenty. ![]() 9th Century bridge on the Via de la Plata |
